What You’ll See at the Museum of Coastal Carolina

Interesting Galleries & Exhibits

The Museum of Coastal Carolina has several themed galleries that delight children and adults of all ages. The Changing Tides Gallery is a visitor favorite and features a fossilized skeleton of a Sperm Whale, shark teeth and jaws found in North Carolina, and an interactive exhibit about inlet migration. Or, visit the Ocean Reef Gallery and walk through a reef that might exist 65 miles off the North Carolina coast. You’ll see life-size models of whales, sharks, sea turtles, rays, and more.
For an up-close look at live sea animals, visit the Sea Shore Gallery. This exhibit has a touch tank, 225-gallon aquarium, and a shell collection with over 200 different shells. The Barrier Islands Gallery is another must-see. Be sure to stop by the “Legend of the Loggerhead” exhibit where you can view a model sand dune with baby sea turtles emerging from a nest!

In addition to its many fascinating exhibits, the museum offers a number of educational programs and events. From kid’s activities and touch tank feedings to informative lecture series, the Museum of Coastal Carolina has something for everyone. Click here for a full list of upcoming events.
The museum’s Ingram Planetarium is located just four miles away and hosts its own special events throughout the year. We love the “Stars at Sunset” program where you can admire the night sky over the Carolinas each month. There’s also a new “StarWatch-a” program on select fall evenings where you can gaze through telescopes and discover the stars. Visit the museum website for more information!
